CASS will be having a Billiards tournament on July 29th from 1-2:30pm at the Hidden Spot, located just across the street from the office, at 2323 32 Ave NE. You can sign up with someone else as a team, or you can sign up as a single player and I will place you with another single player to form a team. Please RSVP asap with CASS reception, so that I can start planning and know how many tables to book!

Free and Cheap Yoga classes inCalgary Please note that “by donation” classes usually expect a $5-$10 donation.) If you know of a yoga studio with accessibly-priced classes that is not included in this list, please let me know so that I can add them.

  • Outdoor Yoga (Stanley Park): http://www.outdooryoga.ca/  Every Sunday at 1pm there is a yoga practice in Stanley Park by donation.
  • Outdoor Yoga (Bridgeland Park): every Saturday at 1pm, next to the baseball diamond, at the bottom of 9a street and McDougall Road.
  • Journey Yoga(811 1st Ave NE): http://journeyyogawellness.com/classes/class-descriptions/ Click on “Karma Yoga” for the upcoming classes that are offered for-donation, with all donations going to the Calgary Women’s Centre. 
  • LIV Yoga & Wellness(#110 840 6 Ave SW): http://www.livyogayyc.com/schedule.html  has $5 6:30am classes for early risers, and plenty of $10 drop-in classes throughout the week that are clearly indicated on their schedule.
  • Yoga In Bowness(6404 Bowness Road): http://www.yogainbowness.com/ has consistently (more) affordable rates than most other studios.
  • Soul Connexion(#28, 12192 Symons Valley Road NW): http://www.soulconnexion.ca/yoga/drop-in-classes-calgary/ has a link to their $5 Community Yoga classes. It’s a good idea to register for the classes online to make sure there will be enough room for you in the class.
  • My Yoga Calgary(9152 MacLeod Trail SE): https://app.schedulehouse.com/SH/Client/000902?#schedule has $7 community classes that you can find times and dates for by selecting “Community Classes” in the “All Categories” drop down menu.
  • Moksha Yoga(#412, 500 Country Hills Blvd. NE): http://calgary-north.mokshayoga.ca/classes/#schedule2 Moksha Yoga has community classes for $10, and Karma classes by donation, please see the linked schedule to see dates and times. 
  • Breathe Hot Yoga(4 locations- Avenida, McKenzie Towne, Airdrie & Nolan Hill): http://www.breathehotyoga.ca/prices.html has regular $10 classes. Scroll down to the bottom of the page in the link provided to see when they are offered.
  • Yoga Passage(1800 4 St SW): http://yogapassage.ca/schedule/ has “Flow for Five” classes which you can search for in the schedule by following the link and selecting “Flow for five/Traditional Yin” from the drop down menu.
  • Yoga Santosha(1800 4 St SW): http://yogasantosha.ca/yoga/schedule/ has a $5 Yoga Groove class on Friday nights, and a Karma program where you can trade 2 hours of cleaning services a week for unlimited yoga. They consistently have a waitlist of people interested in this program, but if you fill out the application at http://yogasantosha.ca/the-studio/karma-program/ you will find out when they have an opening. 
  • Be Love Yoga(#105, 1409 Edmonton Trail NE): Karma Yoga Class every Friday from 7-8pm by donation.
  • Soul Studios(5126 126 Ave SE): There are $10 classes on Friday nights from 6-7pm, and Sunday mornings from 8:30-9:30am. You will need to register for them through http://soulstudios.ca/yoga/ .
  • Yogadotcalm(3217, 380 Canyon Meadows SE): $5 Funky Friday Flow from 6:15-7:15 pm.

Finally, you can always check out the city of Calgary Yoga and Pilates classes (or any other of their registered classes) by going to http://www.cocnmp.com/recreation/myRecGuide/index.php and making your own recreation guide, or ask around at your community centre- there are smaller classes based out of community centres throughout Calgary.

 

FREE:

July 4: Glacier Skywalk Book Launch@ Shelf Life Books (1302 4 St SW). If you are interested in learning how the Glacier Skywalk in the icefields parkway on the way to Jasper was conceived of and built, this book launch shouldn’t be missed.

July 4: Market on Stephen Ave(between First St.SE & 2 St  SW, on Stephen Ave.) Market starts at 11am. Enjoy a walk along the avenue and check out the food, fashion, jewellery and more.

July 4: Prairie Sky Equine Assisted Therapy Open House@ Sunrise Farm (250079 Range Road 32, Calgary). Starts at 10am. Learn more about the organization, check out programs and demonstrations.

July 5-Aug 30: Music in the Plaza@ Heritage Park Gasoline Alley. Begins at 6pm. Every Wednesday evening, there will be a free live music event in gasoline alley, featuring an artist from The Stampede Talent Search.

July 7-8: Calgary Night Market@ Southcentre Mall. 5-11pm both nights. Food trucks, and lots of fun browsing at this pet friendly event.

July 7-16: Live Music Series @ The King Eddy (438 9 Ave SE) Free live music from 11:30-7pm every day.

PAID:

July 3: Tigi Cosmetics 101 @ Calgary Modern Academy (415 Manitou Road SE) Noon-3pm. Learn some cosmetics basics. This course costs $35.

July 5-9: ‘North American’ @ Spruce Meadows. Tickets are $5. For more info see: https://www.sprucemeadows.com/tournaments/view_tournament.jsp?id=27

July 6: Mid Summer Night Swing @ Poppy Plaza (1100 Memorial Drive) $5. Enjoy some outdoor dancing. The beginner lesson is from 7-8pm, and the social dance follows from 8-10pm. You do not need a partner, or experience!.

 July 7: The *actual* opening day of The Granary (226034 112 St) 9-5pm. Most of the facilities are free to enter, but if you want to explore the Active Learning Park, admission is $17, and $5 for direct support providers when accompanying. Season’s passes are available, as well. The 3kms of paved pathways, wheelchair and unisex bathrooms make a fairly accessible venue, although some of the playground areas are covered in bark chip, and as such are not particularly mobility-friendly.
